Trump Account Taxes Explained
This is general information, not tax advice. Tax situations vary — consider a qualified tax professional and confirm current rules with the IRS.
A Trump Account is structured much like a traditional IRA, so its tax treatment follows familiar patterns.
Tax-deferred growth
Investment earnings inside the account are not taxed year to year. They grow tax-deferred while the money stays in the account.
Treatment at age 18
From January 1 of the year the child turns 18, the account is generally treated as a traditional IRA and follows those rules, including on distributions.
Employer contributions
Employer contributions of up to $2,500 per employee are generally tax-free to the employee and count toward the $5,000 annual limit.
Rules can change. Before you act, confirm the current details with official sources such as the IRS and the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and the official program site at trumpaccounts.gov.
