Trump Account Key Dates & Deadlines (2026)
Trump Account timing can be confusing because several different dates apply. This page brings the key ones together in plain English. Always confirm current dates with official sources before you act.
The dates that matter
- July 4, 2026 — nationwide launch. The program launched on this date, and contributions could not be made before it.
- Births January 1, 2025 – December 31, 2028. A U.S. citizen child born in this window, with a valid Social Security number, may receive the one-time $1,000 federal contribution when the election is made.
- $5,000 annual limit (2026 and 2027). The general yearly contribution limit is $5,000 per child, indexed for inflation after 2027.
- Employer contributions up to $2,500. An employer may add up to $2,500 per employee per year, counted within the $5,000 limit.
- Access from age 18. Funds generally cannot be withdrawn before January 1 of the calendar year the child turns 18; after that, traditional-IRA rules generally apply.
Remember: the $1,000 is a one-time contribution tied to birth year, while the $5,000 limit is an annual cap on other contributions. They are separate.
Next steps: check the rules on our eligibility guide, learn how to open an account on the Form 4547 guide, and see the money side on the contributions guide.
Rules can change. Before you act, confirm the current details with official sources such as the IRS and the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and the official program site at trumpaccounts.gov.
